ACE 4.0 CAREER CONFERENCE IN OGUN STATE &
LAGOS STATE
Since 2004, Cares Global Network (CGN), an
organisation focused on empowering young people by teaching media, academic and
entreprenieurial skills, has been organising programmes and projects for young
people. Two flagship programmes remains the commemoration of National Children’s
Day and the International Children’s Day of Broadcasting (ICDB).
To appreciate the importance of children in
Nigeria, May 27 remains a special day in Nigeria. It is a day when the strides,
hopes and aspirations of the Nigerian children are celebrated. The
International Children’s Day of Broadcasting (ICDB) is an advocacy initiative
of UNICEF through which broadcasters engage the public through the voices of children
on the airwaves.
In 2011, CGN in deciding to focus on media
training and career development, began the ICDB Children’s Media Workshop in
commemoration of the ICDB and Children Career Conference in commemoration of
Children’s Day. Chairpersons, Facilitators and Speakers through the years
include:
§ Mrs. Taiwo Ajai
Lycett
§ Mr. ‘Dejumo
Lewis
§ Deaconess Ibiyemi Famuyiwa
§ Mrs. Agatha
Amata
§ Mrs. Lovette Otegbola
§ Mrs. Treasure Durodola
§ Mrs. Funmi Ajumobi
§ Mr. Yinka Olaito
§ Dr. Toke Adekitan
Our trainees had the rare privilege of
interviewing Mrs. Taiwo Ajai Lycett and Chief Dele Momodu. Another set of
trainee had the privilege of exchanging documentaries produced with which were
exchanged with students of Shepshed High School, Leicestershire through a grant
from The Mighty Creatives.
This year will be a dual celebration as the
Project Director of Cares Global Network, the publisher of Willows Magazine, clocks
40! 4 events have been planned, one for all, one for adults and two for young
people. The programmes for young people will include the annual Career
CConference and a new chip on the block – Young Leaders Summit. The Young
Leaders Summit will be launched on May 27 this year but will continue annually
in commemoration of the Universal Children’s Day which is celebrated on November 20.
While the Career Conference will focus on career
choice, career building and career planning, the Young Leaders Summit will
focus on teaching leadership skills.
To carry out both programmes successfully for 400 students in
Ogun and Lagos State, we need your support. Our model budget per student is N4,000. This will take care of Administration,
Hall, Media Publicity, Programme, Newsletter, Banners, Resource Persons,
Faculty Advisors, Documentary Editing, Media Desk & Internet Interface, Tea
Break (Small Chops) & Lunch + Drinks, Music DJ, Projector, Loudspeakers &
Microphone, Ushers, Branded T-Shirts & Writing Materials, Security (Para-Military), Certificate/Award
of Participation, Photography & Video Recording and Transportation.
If we were to make this a money making venture, we would charge N5000 per child. But we are planning it for free and trusting that friends will donate a minimum of N4000 to take care of the participation of one student.
To donate, nominate a school or student,
publicise the event or participate please contact annecares@hotmail.com or
